January 2024 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

2024 is off to an exciting start! Our meetings have been busy, yet productive, and I’m eager to see what we can accomplish in the year ahead.

In our next update, I’ll take a deeper dive into discussing the MIDA Project in the northern part of Wasatch County. However, I greatly value your input. What other issues would you like to see addressed this year?

Please share your thoughts by clicking the link below:

Thank you for being an essential part of our community, and here's to a year filled with collaboration, momentum, and shared success!

Best regards,

Luke Searle

Wasatch County Council

Don't California my Utah

As the Utah Legislature is now in session, we find ourselves actively promoting the fundamental principle of governing closest to the people. Our focus remains on avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach and recognizing the uniqueness of our diverse communities.

We should steer clear of statewide mandates, such as uniform minimum densities. It's failed in plenty of other states, and we don’t want Utah to be the next example of this. The right course of action is to work with local municipalities to address issues across the State, and I want to emphasize my commitment as a willing and active partner in that process.

Working together for Wasatch

Building on last year's efforts to network and collaborate with our neighbors, I continue to take every opportunity to engage with leaders in other municipalities.

This month, I participated in key events such as the quarterly interlocal meeting, Town of Independence meeting, and Hideout's planning retreat.

Collaboration has never been more crucial as we strive to maintain the character of Wasatch County while experiencing growth.

Retirement Send-Off

In a bittersweet moment, we bid farewell to Mike Davis, our MIDA (Military Installation Development Area) Coordinator and former County Manager, who retired earlier this month.

His dedication to our County has been evident in the 820+ County Council meetings he participated in throughout his tenure. We extend our heartfelt thanks and best wishes for a fulfilling retirement!

Community Highlights

Did you know that every Thursday morning, those aged 55 and above can enjoy a free yoga class in Heber? Thank you to Marty Harger and Kate Christensen for organizing this series; it’s a fantastic offering for Wasatch County residents!

Calling all downtown Heber business owners! The Community Alliance on Main Street recently their kickoff meeting, which was a big success. I have found this organization to be a positive force in our community and I encourage everyone who may be interested to get involved.
