September Newsletter

Hello everyone,

As the summer weather settles into fall, we begin to see the beautiful colors and cooler temperatures. It’s a great time to appreciate the changing seasons and prepare for what’s ahead!

In preparing for what’s ahead, I want to take a moment to share some positive updates on important country matters as we enter the budget season.

My County Budget Priorities

As we approach the county budget season, I want to share a few key ideas that I believe will benefit our community:

  • I’m advocating for increasing property tax relief for low-income families and seniors who have lived here for decades, ensuring they aren’t taxed out of their homes.

  • I’m focused on improving our trails by securing matching grants, filling gaps in our trail system, and helping fund a backcountry trail crew in partnership with the Wasatch Trails Foundation to enhance accessibility and connectivity throughout the county.

  • Earlier this summer, I voted against an increase in sales tax that can be used for transportation and public safety. While the majority voted in favor, I would like to see a greater portion of those funds allocated to public safety for our community.

  • Finally, I believe it’s important to continue increasing transparency in our budgeting process so the public has a clearer view of how funds are being allocated and spent.

I look forward to hearing your feedback as we work together to shape a budget that serves the best interests of our community.

Recent Events and Conferences

Along with staff and Councilman Crittenden, I had the privilege of attending the Utah Association of Counties (UAC) Annual Conference in Provo, where we met with fellow county leaders from across the state. We discussed many critical issues that affect our communities, from economic growth to public safety, and shared best practices for addressing them.

In addition, I had the honor of attending the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Wasatch Senior Center. It was a wonderful event, full of stories and memories that highlight the tremendous impact this organization has had over the years. We should all be grateful for the older generations who built the foundation for the community we enjoy today.

Upcoming Town Hall Meetings

Jordanelle Area Listening Town Hall

This Wednesday, September 25, we will be hosting a listening town hall in the Jordanelle area. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and hear from others about key issues in the region. Please find the details attached, including the list of participating entities.

Countywide Town Hall Open House

On October 22nd at 6 pm, we’ll hold a countywide town hall in an open house format at the Wasatch County Senior Center. I encourage everyone to stop by and engage with your local government in a meaningful way.

While I’m happy to provide these updates, the best way to stay informed about what’s happening in Wasatch County Government is by following our social media accounts. For more details on the October town hall and other updates, be sure to connect with us there!
